Family walk honors
mother and supports cancer research Last June, the children of Helen Romaine an MGH patient who died of lung cancer in 1997 organized a walk in her memory and raised $7,000 for MGH lung cancer research. Pleased with the event's success, the Romaine children have decided to plan another for this spring. "We wanted to keep our mother's memory alive, especially for her young grandchildren, as well as make a contribution toward finding a cure for cancer," says Kim Romaine. More than 150 family, friends and colleagues participated in the walk, which took place in Stoughton, Mass. where Helen lived and raised her now-grown five children. The walkers followed the same three-mile route that Helen an avid walker who participated in many benefit walks used to take. The proceeds established the Helen G. Romaine Clinical Cancer Research Fund under the direction of her physician Thomas Lynch, MD, of MGH Hematology/Oncology. For information about the walk to be scheduled this spring, call Kim Romaine at (781) 821-5648.
