BWH names new chief medical officer

1899Whittemore.jpg (25731 bytes)Anthony Whittemore, MD, chief of Vascular Surgery at BWH, has started 1999 as the new chief medical officer at BWH. He succeeds George Thibault, MD, who is the new vice president of Clinical Affairs for Partners HealthCare System.

Whittemore, who trained at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in 1976 and became a member of the medical staff in 1979, will serve as the link between the hospital administration and medical staff as well as lead BWH's care improvement and quality assurance efforts related to physician and medical staff issues.

"Dr. Whittemore is an eminently accomplished and talented physician," says Jeffrey Otten, BWH president. "Equally, he has demonstrated remarkable success as an administrative leader during his tenure at BWH. Such a combination makes him well suited for the chief medical officer's position."
