MGH in the news

press hat.eps (77325 bytes)As a world-renowned academic hospital, the MGH often is featured in the news – locally, nationally and internationally. Recently, the work of several MGH physicians and researchers has been showcased in prominent magazines, newspapers and television broadcasts. Below are a few of the highlights:

  • A groundbreaking 1978 study focusing on preventing anesthesia mishaps, led by Jeffrey Cooper, PhD, of MGH Biomedical Engineering, was heralded in the Feb. 1 issue of The New Yorker in an article titled "When Doctors Make Mistakes."
  • Allen Lapey, MD, of Pediatrics, and Edwin Cassem, MD, chief of Psychiatry, were profiled in the February issue of Boston Magazine, along with many other MGH physicians listed as top doctors in the Boston area.
  • Cutting-edge AIDS research done by Bruce Walker, MD, and colleagues in the Partners AIDS Research Center was featured in a NOVA documentary called "Surviving AIDS," which initially aired Feb. 2.
  • A paper published in the February issue of Nature Genetics about MGH-based research on female mice that could reveal clues to healthier menopause has garnered wide-spread media attention this week. http://www.mgh.harvard.edu/depts/pubaffairs/Releases/press1.htm
