A celebration of
excellence Applause echoed through the WACC Lobby Dec. 16 as more than 1,000 MGHers were recognized for their outstanding achievements at the third annual Partners in Excellence Award ceremony. Samuel O. Thier, MD, president and CEO of Partners, congratulated the honorees, whose hard work has contributed to the success of the Partners system. "We celebrate you and say thank you for all you have done," he said. Along with Thier, James J. Mongan, MD, president of the MGH, and Jeff Davis, senior vice president for Human Resources, expressed their gratitude to this year's MGH recipients, who included 123 individuals, 43 teams and eight Partners network teams. All awardees were nominated by colleagues and then selected from a record number of candidates. At the ceremony, each individual recipient and team leader received a personal thank you and handshake from leadership as they accepted their pin and certificate of excellence. In addition to saluting the winners, Thier listed some of the significant accomplishments that have resulted from employees working together throughout Partners, including the recognition it receives each year as a national leader in health care. He noted that once again this year, US News and World Report ranked the MGH and BWH in the top 10 hospitals in the country and Spaulding, McLean and Dana-Farber among the best within their specialties. The ceremony concluded with a video presentation, which not only highlighted several Partners achievements, but also inspired laughter with an ending that featured the dancing talents of employees throughout the system.
