Continuing the legacy of
Stephanie Macaluso, RN Continuing to celebrate excellence, Patient Care Services honored the five new recipients of the Stephanie Macaluso, RN, Expertise in Clinical Practice Awards Dec. 3. Colleagues, family members and friends filled the O'Keeffe Auditorium to join Jeanette Ives Erickson, RN, MS, senior vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nurse, in congratulating the awardees: Maureen Beaulieu, RN, of the Emergency Department; Tessa Goldsmith, MA, CCC/SLP, of Speech Language Pathology; Diana Grobman, RN, of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; Karen Lechner, MSW, LICSW, of Social Services and Donna Slicis, RN, of the Coronary Care Unit. The award renamed to honor its first recipient Stephanie Macaluso, RN, a clinical nurse specialist in the MGH Thoracic Surgical Service recognizes direct care providers whose practice is based on caring, intuition, knowledge, the spirit of inquiry, leadership and teamwork. Recipients, who are nominated by colleagues, receive funds for career development. The awards are given twice a year. In addition to applauding the winners, Ives Erickson remembered Macaluso, who died in July after a long battle with cancer. Praising Macaluso for her compassion and dedication to patients, Ives Erickson said, "We are stronger for having been with Stephanie and for having been renewed by her spirit."
