What's Happening
Summer camp at the Backup Child Care
Center
The MGH Backup Child Care Center will sponsor School Age Vacation Camp for children ages 6
to 12 this summer from June 28 to July 2, Aug. 23 to 27 and Aug. 30 to Sept. 3. The camps
will run from 7:30 am to 6 pm each day and feature a variety of programs and activities,
including excursions to such local spots as Georges Island, the historic North End and
Fenway Park. To make reservations, call the Backup Child Care Center at 4-8414.
Reservations will be taken beginning at 8 am on April 15 for the June camp week and on
April 16 for the August camp weeks.
Weight management class
MGH Nutrition Services will offer a 10-week weight management class "Winning at the
Losing Game," which will meet every Tuesday 5:30 to 7:30 pm, beginning April 27. The
class will include education about nutrition by a registered dietitian, an exercise
program supervised by a physical therapist and behavior modification to assist with
lifestyle change. The class costs $215 for MGH employees and $225 for nonemployees.

Mothers and sons
The Employee Assistance Program will present a seminar
entitled "Mothers and Sons: Staying Connected" April 15, noon to 1 pm, in the
Wellman Conference Room. Cate Dooley, MS, from the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute at
the Stone Center, Wellesley College, will discuss alternatives for raising boys. Fathers
and other caretakers also are encouraged to attend the seminar. For more information, call

Financial tips
The Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP)
will host a seminar entitled "Personal Financial Tips for the 21st Century"
April 13, 9:30 to 11 am, in Burr Conference Room 5, third floor, Bartlett Hall Extension.
A financial expert will discuss investments, future planning and retirement. To make a

Cancer Center newsletter goes online
The Cancer Center Corner, a new online newsletter providing
updates and news for MGH Cancer Center staff now is available on the Cancer Center website
at www.cancer.mgh.harvard.edu.

Women's Health Symposium
A free, public Women's Health Symposium will be held April 15, 5:30 to 8:30 pm, in the
second floor conference room, at the MGH·Charlestown
HealthCare Center. Screenings will be available for cholesterol, glucose and blood
pressure, and women will have the opportunity to speak with members of the clinical staff,
including a cardiologist, primary care physician, nutritionist and stress management

Severe illness in children
The MGH Institute of Health Professions will present a seminar entitled "Children and
Death" about children facing severe illness, 9 am to noon, 101 Merrimac St., room
336. The guest speaker will be Ida Martinson, RN, PhD, FAAN, dean of the School of Nursing

Research job fair
The Partners Corporate Employment Office will sponsor its annual research job fair April
29, 11 am to 5 pm, at the Swissotel, Boston. Departments that would like to participate in
the recruitment event, which each year attracts hundreds of attendees seeking positions in
the research communities of MGH and BWH, may contact their Human Resource generalist by

MGH Angel Fund reception
Sculler's jazz club, located at the Doubletree Suites Hotel in Boston, is hosting a
reception to benefit the MGH Angel Fund supporting Lou Gehrig's disease research, April

Irene Epstein Rosenthal Memorial Lecture
Henry Mankin, MD, former chief of Orthopædics at the
MGH, will deliver the first annual Irene Epstein Rosenthal Memorial Lecture April 15 at
noon, in Conference Room 8a and b, at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. The topic will be
"New Developments in the Treatment of Bone Tumors." Lunch will be served. To

Latino health lecture
David Hayes-Bautista, PhD, from the University of California School of Medicine, Los
Angeles, will present "Latino Health Movement: Affirmative Action 30 Years
Later" April 15, 6 to 7 pm, in the Carl Walter Amphitheater, Tosteson Medical
Education Center, 260 Longwood Ave., Harvard Medical School. A reception will begin at
