Jane Claflin, honorary trustee of the MGH, received the 1999 New England Association for Healthcare Philanthropy award for Distinguished Service to Philanthropy, at the organization's annual award luncheon April 12 in Newport, R.I. She was honored for her extraordinary work on behalf of the MGH and other charitable organizations.

Dedicated to the MGH for more than 40 years, she has been committed to advancing the careers of young women physicians and scientists at the hospital, has advocated for the Department of Nursing and has led major campaigns to raise funds for hospital buildings and programs. She has been a member of the MGH Ladies Visiting Committee since the 1950s and served on the MGH Board of Trustees from 1973 to 1989. She continues to serve as an honorary trustee.
