MGHers elected to Institute of Medicine

Three MGH physicians--(pictured at right, from top to bottom) Robert H. Brown Jr., MD, director of the MGH Day Neuromuscular Research Laboratory; Joseph Vacanti, MD, of MGH Pediatric Surgery; and Warren Zapol, MD, chief of MGH Anesthesia and Critical Care--recently were elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM).

Part of the National Academy of Sciences, the IOM is comprised of professionals selected for their major contributions to health, medicine and related fields such as social and behavioral sciences, law and economics. IOM members serve on committees engaged in a broad range of studies on health policy issues.

The IOM currently has more than 600 members across the country, with 22 representatives from the MGH.
