elected to Institute of Medicine
Three
MGH physicians--(pictured at right, from top to bottom) Robert
H. Brown Jr., MD, director of the MGH Day Neuromuscular Research Laboratory;
Joseph Vacanti, MD, of MGH Pediatric Surgery; and Warren Zapol, MD, chief
of MGH Anesthesia and Critical Care--recently were elected to the Institute
of Medicine (IOM).
Part
of the National Academy of Sciences, the IOM is comprised of professionals
selected for their major contributions to health, medicine and related
fields such as social and behavioral sciences, law and economics. IOM
members serve on committees engaged in a broad range of studies on health
policy issues.
The
IOM currently has more than 600 members across the country, with 22 representatives
from the MGH.
