First annual Sweet lecture
The MGH Departments of Neurosurgery and Anesthesiology and Critical Care will sponsor the first annual William H. Sweet lecture –  focusing on functional neurosurgery and pain –  Dec. 6, at 8 am in the Ether Dome. For more information or to register, call (617) 726-8583.

EAP presentation
Representatives from MGH Police and Security and the MGH Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will sponsor "Safety and Self Care: Taking Care of Ourselves in Times of Stress" Dec. 3, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm, and Dec. 5, from 8 to 9 am, in the Wellman Conference Room. The presentation will include a panel discussion and open forum about concerns in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks. For more information, contact the EAP at (617) 726-6976.

Millennium-Partners faculty exchange program
As part of a collaboration between Partners HealthCare and Millennium Pharmaceuticals, a faculty exchange program has been developed to offer Partners scientists the opportunity to learn about Millennium's technology. All Partners clinicians with medical degrees, having completed at least three years of residency with an understanding of basic disease mechanisms are eligible. Applications are due by Dec. 21. Domestic violence service
The MGH Hospitals Helping Abuse and Violence End Now (HAVEN) Program, the MGH Domestic Violence Working Group, Chaplaincy, Social Services, Employee Assistance Program and Police and Security will sponsor a service of remembrance and healing for those affected by domestic violence, Dec. 7, from 12:15 to 12:45 pm in the MGH Chapel. MGPO quarterly meeting
The Massachusetts General Physicians Organization (MGPO) will hold its quarterly meeting Dec. 5, from 5 to 6:30 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Stephen Calderwood, MD, chief of the MGH Division of Infectious Diseases, and David Hooper, MD, chief of the MGH Infection Control Unit, will offer an update on bioterrorism preparation for MGPO physicians. Luncheon for women faculty
The MGH Office for Women's Careers will sponsor its first networking luncheon for senior women faculty Dec. 7, from noon to 1 pm in Bulfinch 222. The event is an opportunity for senior women faculty members to meet, network and improve the quality of community and collaboration. Hazmat training for clinical research personnel
The MGH Clinical Research Program and MGH Safety Office will sponsor hazardous materials training for clinical research personnel who package or ship infectious or diagnostic specimens. The training sessions –  taught by MGH biosafety officer Kim Boleza –  will be held Dec. 10, from 1:30 to 3 pm, and Dec. 12 and 14, from 10:30 am to noon, in the Lawrence House first floor conference room. Holiday resource table
The MGH Employee Assistance Program will sponsor a holiday resource table Dec. 6, from 11 am to 1 pm outside the Eat Street Cafe. The table will provide suggestions for managing stress, setting realistic goals and ensuring good health during the holiday season.

Schweitzer Fellows symposium
The 2001-2002 Boston Schweitzer Fellows Program Symposium, entitled "Children's Health and Literacy," will be held Dec. 4, from 6 to 8 pm at the Boston University School of Medicine's McNary Learning Center, 80 East Concord St. in Boston. Among the featured speakers will be Christine Bridges, RN, DNSc, of the MGH Institute of Health Professions Graduate Program in Nursing. The symposium is free and open to the public.
