Helping through holiday shopping: Annual FAO Schwarz fundraiser

Holiday shopping at the FAO Schwarz Toy Store in Boston took on a new twist as the Friends of the MGH Cancer Center hosted their annual fundraising event at the store Nov. 15. Set to an All-American theme, the evening included a silent auction, featuring an autographed edition of the popular children's novel Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. More than 600 guests participated in the night's festivities, which also included an "all-American buffet" and holiday shopping for toys, games and books personally signed by visiting authors. The event is expected to raise a net profit of more than $260,000.

Several noted authors also were on hand to support the MGH. Sumner Redstone, chairman and CEO of Viacom, was in attendance to sign copies of his autobiography A Passion to Win. Author Barbara Delinsky (pictured above) signed her latest work, Uplift: Secrets from the Sisterhood of Breast Cancer Survivors. All proceeds from the evening's book sales benefited the MGH.
