What's
happening United Way winds up
Nov. 17 is the last day for MGHers to turn in MGH/United Way pledge card to be eligible
for dozens of raffle prizes, such as Red Sox tickets, three days of earned time and a Palm
Pilot. Pledge cards are available at information desks and Payroll Offices on the main
campus and at the health centers. For more information about the MGH United Way campaign,

World AIDS Day
The African AIDS Initiative International and Trinity Church will present World AIDS Day
2000 Dec.1, 6 to 9 pm at Trinity Church, Copley Square, Boston, for an evening of
awareness for AIDS in Africa. Laura Riley, MD, MGH director of OB/GYN Infectious Diseases,

Grant writing
seminars
The Clinical Research Program is sponsoring grant writing seminars Nov. 28 and 29, 4 to 5
pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. This two-part seminar series focuses on National Institutes
of Health grant preparation guidelines for clinical investigators, emphasizing strategies
in the review process that will help secure funding opportunities. Registration is

Longwood
Symphony Orchestra performance
The Longwood Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra of Boston's medical community, will present
a concert featuring 16-year-old piano prodigy Alicia Gabriela Martinez Dec. 2, 8 pm, at
New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall. Tickets are $20. For more information, call

relocating
The Pharmacy has relocated to the Gray/Blake Basement. The phone numbers will remain the
same. The Pharmacy pick-up window is adjacent to the Blake elevator, Level B.
HOPES seminars
The MGH HOPES (Helping Our Patients and Families through Education and Support) program
will offer "Feeling Stressed? Some Simple Steps to Relax," facilitated by Vicki
Cotton, MSW, LICSW, Nov. 27, noon to 1 pm. "Parenting in Challenging Times,"
facilitated by Paula Rauch, MD, will be offered Nov. 28, 11 am to noon. "Kick the
Habit for Better Health: Resources to Help Quit Smoking," facilitated by Eileen
Joyce, MSW, LICSW, Nov. 29, noon to 1 pm. All seminars are held in the Cancer Resource
