MGH receives award for making commuting less stressful

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Bostonians spend an average of 67 hours a year sitting in traffic. Because the MGH is committed to making commuting as stress free as possible, the hospital was recognized as one of New England's Best Workplaces for Commuters Oct. 30 at a press conference held by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The MGH is one of 83 employers throughout New England honored for providing commuting options that are less stressful, save money and help the environment.

The MGH Parking and Commuter Services Office offers a wide range of commuting options for MGH employees that include subsidized T passes, a bike-to-work program, a walk-to-work program, ride sharing, a van pool and several Zip cars. These initiatives are supported by the Partners shuttle bus system that provides transportation throughout Partners.

Bonnie Michelman (left), director of MGH Police, Security and Outside Services, spoke at the press conference about the successful programs the MGH has implemented. "The MGH is proud to offer our employees programs and benefits to help them get to work more easily, while helping the community to reduce congestion and improve air quality. Being on the first New England Best Workplace for Commuters list is a great sign that we're on the right track," said Michelman.
