• In memoriam: Thomas S. Durant, MD – Beloved MGH physician
  Thomas S. Durant, MD, spent much of his life chasing catastrophe and chaos in some of the world's most forsaken and forlorn spots. This international humanitarian, this caregiver to the world, this complex man who called himself "a simple boy from Dorchester c with a passport," died Oct. 30 at the hospital he loved, after a long and hard-fought battle against cancer. He was 73.

• MGH launches confidentiality awareness campaign
  The MGH is kicking off a campaign promoting patient confidentiality throughout the month of November, reminding employees, staff, patients and visitors about the hospital's patient confidentiality policies.

• Schwartz Center dinner heralds compassionate caregiving
  Kindness and commitment in patient care were recognized and celebrated at the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center's sixth annual dinner Oct. 24. The center – dedicated to supporting and advancing compassionate health care delivery – was founded by Schwartz, a Boston health care attorney who chronicled his experiences as a patient struggling with lung cancer.

• Bringing multicultural education to MGH physicians
  Joseph Betancourt, MD, was recruited to serve as senior scientist at the MGH Institute of Health Professions and head the Multicultural Education Program of the MGH Multicultural Affairs Office.

• MGH commemorates Latino Heritage Month
  With a colorful blend of education, history, music and cuisine, the MGH honored the past, present and future of the Latino culture in a multifaceted celebration Oct. 26.

  Ghosts, ghouls and giggles abounded as MassGeneral Hospital for Children patients celebrated Halloween with a haunted house Oct. 25 and trick-or-treating Halloween day.
