Memorial service
A memorial service will be held for William S. Beck, MD, a former MGH
hematology specialist, Nov. 2 at 3 pm at the Memorial Church at Harvard
Yard in Cambridge. A reception will follow at the Harvard Faculty Club.
All are invited to attend.
Senior HealthWISE seminar
The MGH
Senior HealthWISE program will offer "Don't Let Arthritis Get
You Down" Nov. 4, from 11 am to noon in the Walcott Conference Room.
Mary Ann Hardenbergh, director of Project Healthy Plus, will discuss the
causes, treatments and how lifestyle affects arthritis. For more information,

Pri-Med 2003 conference
The annual Pri-Med conference and exhibition will be held Nov. 7 to 10
at the Hynes Convention Center. Partners hospitals will be featured in

CRP seminars
The MGH Clinical Research Program (CRP) will offer "HIPAA - What
Have We Learned Since April 14, 2003?" Nov. 5, from 4 to 5 pm in
the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Pearl O'Rourke, MD, director of MGH Human Research
Affairs, will be the speaker. "How to Write Research Consent Forms
that Subjects Understand," will be offered Nov. 13, from noon to
4 pm at 100 Charles River Plaza, second floor. There is a $50 fee for
the course, and enrollment is limited to 30. This course is approved for
4.5 contact hours for registered nurses.To register for either seminar,

Magnet hospital celebration
Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH, and Jeanette Ives Erickson,
RN, senior vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nurse, invite
the MGH community to a reception in celebration of the hospital's recent
achievement of Magnet Hospital Recognition Nov. 12, from 2:30 to 4:30
pm in the WACC lobby. Remarks will begin at 3:15 pm.
Schizophrenia Education Day
The Schizophrenia Program of MGH
Psychiatry will host the first annual Schizophrenia Education Day
Nov. 22, from 9 am to noon in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. A continental breakfast
will be served at 8:30 am. Discussions will focus on current approaches
to treating schizophrenia and state-of-the-art methods in research. For
