Changes to online telephone directory
Members of the Telecommunications Department will be available to assist employees with checking and correcting information listed in the Partners online telephone directory, Nov. 3 and 4, Main Corridor, 7 am to 5 pm. The information contained in online directory listings is viewed by many departments who depend on its accuracy in referring patients to care areas, delivering mail and establishing contact by telephone, e-mail and pager. MGHers are encouraged to check their own listings prior to this event.

Blood Pressure: Less is More screening booth
To help educate MGHers and hospital visitors about the importance of monitoring blood pressure, the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization will host a blood pressure screening booth, Nov.1 in the Main Corridor, 9 am to 4 pm. Educational materials will be available. For more information, call 4-6336.

Town meeting for house staff and clinical fellows
All house staff and clinical fellows are invited to attend a Town Meeting, Nov. 15, 5:30 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. James J. Mongan, MD, MGH president, Brit Nicholson, MD, MGH chief medical officer, Isaac Schiff, MD, chief of Vincent Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Debbie Weinstein, MD, director of Graduate Medical Education, will answer questions and talk about issues of interest to clinical trainees. Suggestions for topics or questions can be sent in advance by e-mail to Weinstein at dweinstein@partners.org or faxed to 6-2118.

Online ordering from ISC
The Radiology Image Service Center (ISC) now can be accessed on line to order radiologic studies. This service upgrade will allow for easier access to the ISC, which relocated from the WACC to the Blake sub-basement in August. To use this new feature, visit the Radiology Department website at www.mgh.harvard.edu/radiology and click on the ISC icon. The site is available only during regular ISC hours of operation; Monday through Friday, 8 am to 6 pm.

A. Clifford Barger Award
The deadline for nominations for the 1999 A. Clifford Barger Harvard Medical School Excellence in Mentoring Award has been extended to Nov. 15. This award presents mentees the opportunity to thank mentors for the time and effort extended on their behalf and recognizes the importance of mentoring. To receive a nomination form or for additional information, call Nancy Kaufman at 423-1037.

New PET scanner
The Department of Radiology and the Division of Nuclear Medicine, recently purchased a new positron emission tomography (PET) scanner. PET is a diagnostic procedure used in the early biological detection of diseases such as lymphoma, lung carcinoma and malignant melanoma. PET differs from other imaging techniques, such as CT and MRI, in that it detects biological changes earlier. The scanner will be housed temporarily in a medical trailer across from Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary until renovations are completed on White 2. Patients can be scheduled by calling 6-8367.

AMMP membership drive
The Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP) will hold a membership drive Nov. 10, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, in the Main Lobby, at CNY in the East Lobby and at Spaulding near the second floor cafe. AMMP is a volunteer organization open to employees at all levels and areas of Partners, the MGH and BWH.
