What's Happening

Law and ethics seminar
The MGH Pharmacy will sponsor "Law and Ethics 2000: Pharmacogenomics – The Future is Here," Nov. 4, 8:25 am to 2:30 pm at the Burlington Marriott Hotel, One Mall Road, Burlington. The lectures will range from a review of advances in basic science, to emerging legal and ethical issues. The program fulfills the requirements for license renewal in Massachusetts and awards five CEU’s. The $50 registration fee includes lunch. HOPES seminars
The MGH HOPES (Helping our Patients and Families through Education and Support) program will offer drop-in yoga Nov. 2, 9, 16 and 30, noon to 1 pm in the Cancer Resource Room on Cox 1. For more information, call the Cancer Resource Room at 724-1822 or the HOPES program at 72-HOPES (724-6737).

Women’s health symposium
The fall women’s health symposium, "Continuum of Care: Wellness for Women at Every Age," will be held Nov. 1, 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the O’Keeffe Auditorium. Speakers will include Annekathryn Goodman, MD, and May Wakamatsu, MD, of the MGH Vincent Memorial Obstetrics and Gynecology Service, and Daniel Kopans, MD, of MGH Radiology. Ethics forum
The MGH Ethics Task Force will sponsor "Controlling One’s Own Death: Should There be Limits?" Nov. 8 at 4:30 pm in the Walcott Conference Rooms 2 and 3. The forum will feature a presentation of the Bill Moyers PBS video "A Death of One’s Own," with a case presentation and panel-based discussion to follow. Refreshments will be served. Benefits open enrollment
Open enrollment is currently being held at the MGH, with changes effective Jan. 1, 2001. Employees can stop by information sessions, called Benefairs and QuickStops, to ask questions about various benefit programs. There will be QuickStops Oct. 27 from 1 to 5 pm at CNY in B-33, R301, Nov. 1, 10 am to noon at the North End Health Center; and Nov. 2, 8 to 10 am in the Wellman Conference Room; and noon to 2 pm at MGH Revere HealthCare Center. There will be BeneFairs Oct. 31, 1 to 5 pm in the Walcott Conference Room and Nov. 1, 1 to 5 pm at CNY, Building 149. Complete schedules were mailed to employees with personal benefit summaries last week. For more information, call the Benefits Office at 726-8133.

Anorexia nervosa program
The MGH Neuroendocrine Unit and the Harvard Eating Disorders Center will host a free symposium entitled "Anorexia Nervosa: Towards Recovery in the Year 2000," Nov. 16, from 9 am to 1 pm in the Shriner’s Hospital Auditorium. Speakers will include David Herzog, MD, of MGH Psychiatry, and Karen K. Miller, MD, and Steven Grinspoon, MD, of the MGH Neuroendocrine Unit. To register, call Kelly Bodio at 724-5784 by Nov.1.
