Stoeckle Center celebration

Patients, friends and physicians gathered together in the Wellman Conference Rooms Oct. 9 to show their support of the John D. Stoeckle Center for Primary Care at the center's first annual reception. Welcoming remarks were given by John D. Goodson, MD; Michael J. Barry, MD; and John D. Stoeckle, MD, as they described the strong commitment of the Stoeckle Center to building and maintaining relationships between patients and their doctors and strengthening the ties among health care providers.

Valerie Stone, MD, of MGH Internal Medical Associates, discussed her work in training medical students about cross-cultural care. Cross-cultural training enables future doctors to understand the cultural context of their patients so that they can provide health care that best meets the needs and expectations of these patients.

Since its inception in 2000, the Stoeckle Center has been supported by two philanthropic funds. The Joseph W. Gardella, MD, Memorial Endowed Fund was established by the Gardella family to commemorate the years that he practiced medicine with the same values and objectives of the Stoeckle Center. The Marjorie E. Lipson Trust Fund was established by Ben, Ellie and Judy Lipson to promote patient rights and patient advocacy.
