MGH physicians changing the face
of medicine
Susan
Briggs, MD, MPH, of MGH Surgery, and Denise L. Faustman, MD, director
of the MGH Immunobiology Laboratory, are being highlighted as two of the
physicians in the National Institute of Medicine exhibit "Changing
the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America's Women Physicians." The
exhibit, which honors the lives and achievements of women in medicine,
will be at the Library of Medicine in Washington for two years and then
will travel throughout the country. Briggs (shown below) was chosen
to be part of the exhibit for her humanitarian and disaster work as the
director of the International Surgical Response Team (IMSuRT), and Faustman
is highlighted for her discovery of a new molecular biology approach for
tissue and organ transplantation. The exhibit is meant to show how women
physicians have excelled in diverse medical careers and to encourage females
to enter the fields of science and medicine.
