Partners appoints new director of Center for Human Genetics

Bruce Korf, MD, PhD, has been appointed medical director for the newly created Partners Center for Human Genetics. Korf will be responsible for creating a comprehensive approach to the delivery of genetics services including clinical care, training and research throughout the Partners system.

Korf plans to create an environment in which genetics will be integrated into both primary and secondary health care within Partners, improving the efficiency and efficacy of care and facilitating research into pathophysiology, treatment and care delivery. He will oversee the coordination of existing genetics services currently offered within the system, initiate adult genetics services as deemed appropriate at both the MGH and BWH, and develop a consultation network with Partners Community HealthCare Inc.

In addition, Korf plans to design a comprehensive approach to genetics education. This educational initiative will be broad in nature to address the needs of a variety of constituents, including practicing physicians, interns, residents, fellows, nursing staff, counselors, patients and the general public. He will continue to serve as director of the Harvard Medical School Genetics Training Program, a position he has held since 1986.

Prior to joining Partners, Korf held the position of director of Clinical Genetics at both Children's Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

The Partners Center for Human Genetics is located on the sixth floor of the Harvard Institutes of Medicine Building, 77 Avenue Louis Pasteur, Boston. Korf will have offices at the center and at the MGH. For more information, call 525-5750.
