Yvonne L. Munn Awards and Lecture

The Yvonne L. Munn Nursing Research Awards and Lecture were presented in the O'Keeffe Auditorium Oct. 14. They were created in 1994 upon the retirement of Munn, who served as MGH associate general director for Nursing from 1984 to 1993. An international contributor to the nursing profession, Munn was one of the founders of the Harvard Nursing Research Institute.

Marianne Chulay, RN, DNSc, FAAN, director of Nursing Research and Practice at Moses Cone Health System in Greensboro, NC, spoke about "Clinical Practice and Research: Fitting a Square Peg into a Round Hole," and stressed the need to refocus the way nurses are educated to perform research in a service setting.

The Yvonne L. Munn Nursing Research Awards were presented by Jeanette Ives Erickson, RN, MS, senior vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nurse, to support the research of Diane E. Carroll, RN, PhD; Lynne Chevoya, RN, CS; and Jessica Hogarth Murray, RN, CS, who are studying a patient's capacity to learn following a cardiac procedure for coronary artery disease. Mary Liz Bilodeau, RN, MS, CCRN, CS; Katie Brush, RN, MS, CCRN; and Nicole Macomber, RN, BS, also received awards for their work comparing two hemofilters used for continuous venovenous hemofiltration/diafiltration, a technique for renal replacement therapy in acutely ill patients.
