MGH celebrates Ether Day with fun and humor

MGH employees gathered under the Bulfinch Tent Oct. 15 to celebrate Ether Day - the annual event that recognizes employee length of service - and to honor the 2,161 employees who have worked at the hospital for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 60 years.

Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH, who celebrated 20 years of service at the hospital, and Jeff Davis, senior vice president for MGH Human Resources, who celebrated 25 years, brought a little humor to the ceremony by trading oversized Ether Day pins.

"Today is a day to honor everyone on staff, especially those who are being recognized at this celebration," said Slavin. "It's the people here who are responsible for making the MGH a great institution to work at."

The Ether Day dancers also made an appearance, delighting the audience with a lively performance set to hit songs through the years, from 1944's "Shoo Shoo Baby" by the Andrews Sisters to 1999's "Livin' La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin.
