Partners opens new research facility

The first Partners HealthCare research facility to house scientists from both the MGH and BWH was officially opened Oct. 11. The new five-story, 123,000 square-foot building is located at 65 Landsdowne St. in Cambridge, at University Park near the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Members of the Partners research, clinical and administrative communities attended opening ceremonies with speakers including Samuel O. Thier, MD, president and CEO of Partners; Jack Connors Jr., board chairman of Partners; and Joseph Martin, MD, dean of Harvard Medical School.

101901lansdowne.jpg (58493 bytes)Focusing on the central place that medical research occupies in Partners’ mission, the speakers praised Eugene Braunwald, MD, vice president for Partners Academic Programs, for his vision and leadership of the research enterprise and for his efforts to promote collaboration among scientists across Partners. After the program, guests were treated to tours of many of the labs in the building, including the Center for the Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT) and the Harvard Partners Genome Center.
