The MGH ProTech Program
The MGH ProTech Program now
is recruiting departments and staff to provide department tours and share
their job experience with small groups of students who will be visiting
the MGH Oct. 24. ProTech is part of the MGH Community Benefit Program
and organizes tours, rotations, job shadow days, speakers and internships
to expose Boston public school students to the MGH and the many career
opportunities available in the health care field. For more information,

OWC research seminar
The MGH Office for Women's
Careers (OWC) will host a presentation entitled, "Enhancing the
Professional Development Environment at MGH for Women Faculty," Oct.
21, from 8 to 9:30 am in the Walcott 2 and 3 Conference Rooms. Janet Bickel,
associate vice president for the Association of American Medical Colleges,
will be the guest speaker. All MGHers are invited. Breakfast will be served

Partners proteomics symposium
MGHers are invited to celebrate the opening of the new Harvard Medical
School-Partners HealthCare Center for Genetics, Genomics and Proteomics
facility at a symposium Oct. 18, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at the Hotel at
MIT, 20 Sidney St. in Cambridge. A reception and tours of the new facility

Domestic violence awareness
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, the hospital's
Domestic Violence Working
Group will present a seminar focusing on the response of the Asian
community to domestic violence Oct. 17, from noon to 1 pm in the Walcott
2 and 3 Conference Rooms. Lunch will be served at 11:45 am. For more information,

CRP training program
The Clinical Research Program
is sponsoring "Conducting Clinical Research Studies" for clinical
research coordinators with less than six months experience Oct. 30, from
8:30 am to 5 pm in the Wellman 101 Conference Room. Lorraine Ellis, president
of Research Dynamics, will provide instruction on the basic duties of
research coordinators involved in investigational drug or device studies.
The course awards 8.4 contact hours for nurses. Registration is required.

Case management seminar
The MGH Case Management Department will offer a lecture Oct. 15, from
10 to 11 am in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Louis Feuer, a nationally recognized
lecturer, author and health care management consultant will present, "Dealing
with the Changing Health Care Times: It's Time to Break the Rules."

Longwood Symphony Orchestra benefit concert
The Longwood Symphony Orchestra (LSO), Boston's orchestra of the medical
community, will perform a concert Oct. 27 benefiting the Sharing Foundation,
a humanitarian organization established to help improve the quality of
life for orphaned and severely disadvantaged children in Cambodia. The
concert will begin at 3 pm at Jordan Hall in Boston. The presentation
will feature guest conductor Charles Ansbacher, British actor Nigel Gore,
soprano Elizabeth Keusch and music from A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Tickets are $15 for students and seniors and $20 for all others. For more

Avon Breast Evaluation Center opens
The MGH is hosting a celebration marking the dedication of the new Avon
Breast Evaluation Center Oct. 16 at 4 pm in the WACC cafeteria. The new
center offers MGH patients early detection and swift treatment, key factors
in lowering the death rate from breast cancer. Refreshments will be served
at 4 pm. A speaking program will begin at 4:30 pm, and tours of the new

Ellis Antique Show
The MGH will be participating in the 43rd annual Ellis Antique Show, one
of the country's premier antique shows, Oct. 30 through Nov. 3 at the
Castle at Park Plaza in Boston. For the second year, the antique show
will benefit MassGeneral Hospital for Children. The show will highlight
45 antique dealers representing the finest in American and European furniture,
ceramics, glass, silver, prints, paintings, rugs, books, jewelry and folk
art. The cost of the show is $10 for MGHers who present their hospital
ID badge.
