A send-off to the Sudan

Katie Fallon, RN, of Ellison 20, was sent off in style Oct. 1 when her colleagues gave her a bon voyage breakfast to celebrate her upcoming departure to Darfur, a region of Sudan. She will spend a year caring for the sick and underprivileged of this war-torn area that is desperate for adequate medical care. Fallon - along with Grace Deveney, RN, of Bigelow 11 - are embarking on this humanitarian mission as recipients of this year's Thomas S. Durant, MD, Fellowship in Refugee Medicine.

From left, Keith Perleberg, RN, DIV, nurse manager for Ellison 20; Jeanette Ives Erickson, RN, MS, senior vice president for patient care services and chief nurse; Fallon; and Larry Ronan, MD, of MGH Internal Medicine Associates and director of the Durant Fellowship.
