MGH Charlestown
celebrates 35th anniversary
The MGH Charlestown HealthCare Center celebrated its 35th anniversary
Sept. 24, with Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino making a special appearance
to thank caregivers, staff and community partners for their dedication
to improving the health of the neighborhood.
Lorenzo Lewis, MD, medical director of MGH Charlestown, provided a brief
overview of the health center's efforts during the past 35 years. Peter
L. Slavin, MD,
president of the MGH, spoke about Menino's many contributions to the health
care of Boston-area residents. "For those of us at MGH Charlestown,
Mayor Menino is very simply our champion," said Slavin. "We
thank him for being on our side in our efforts to provide high quality,
affordable and accessible care."
Peggy Carolan, administrative director of MGH Charlestown, recognized
seven individuals from the community, the MGH and Partners for their special
contributions. Brit Nicholson, MD, MGH chief medical officer; Sally Iles,
associate vice president of Medicine in Primary Care Administration; Joan
Quinlan, director of MGH Community Benefits; Matt Fishman, director of
Partners Community Benefits; John Auerbach, director of the Boston Public
Health Commission; Linda Whitlock, director of the Charlestown Boys and
Girls Club; and Thomas Flatley, president of the Flatley Company, all
