MGH celebrates
Kidney Care Day
Laughter filled the O'Keeffe Auditorium as Loretta LaRoche, a nationally
known speaker, captivated the audience with her talk on "The Humorous
Side of Coping with
Chronic Illness" as part of the first annual MGH Kidney Care Day
held Sept. 30. LaRoche spoke about remaining optimistic, remembering to
laugh and focusing on today, not tomorrow.
The purpose of Kidney Care Day was to share with patients and the MGH
community the services that are available for patients with kidney disease
at the hospital. A highlight of Kidney Care Day was the grand rounds presentation
of Robert Toto, MD, from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center at Dallas. Kidney Care Day also provided an opportunity for the
many different departments that care for patients with kidney disease
to showcase their work. The MGH Renal Unit, the Center for Renal Education,
Renal Associates, Pediatric Nephrology, Nutrition Services, Hemodialysis,
Social Services, Peritoneal Dialysis, Interventional Radiology, Transplantation,
Renal Research and Tissue Typing came together and provided informational
displays throughout the Main Corridor for employees, patients and visitors.
