What's Happening National Pastoral Care Week
The MGH Chaplaincy Department will celebrate National Pastoral Care Week Oct. 18. Staff,
patients and families are welcome to attend a service in the MGH Chapel at noon featuring
music performed by Ben Youngman. There also will be a performance by Urban Myth, a musical
ensemble, in the Chapel at 12:30 pm. Information about Chaplaincy services and religious
and spiritual resources will be available in the Main Lobby, from 11 am to 2 pm.
Great Escape
National Fire Prevention Week
is Oct. 8 through 14. As part of the week's celebration, the world's largest fire drill
will take place Oct. 11 at 7 pm. Families are encouraged to participate by engaging in
home fire planning and practice. Information about fire prevention will be available Oct.

MGPO forum
The Massachusetts General Physicians
Organization will host "Through the Patient's Eyes," Oct. 26, 5 to 6:30 pm
in the Wellman Conference Room. The speaker will be Jennifer Daley, MD, a nationally
recognized expert in improving quality from both the patient and the physician

Domestic Violence awareness
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Domestic Violence Working Group
will sponsor "What About the Children? Chelsea Reaches Out to Children and
Families," Oct. 12, noon to 1 pm in the Wellman Conference Room. Lunch will be

HOPES seminars
The MGH HOPES (Helping Our Patients/Families through Education and Support) program will
offer "Breast Self-Examination: Key to Personal Protection," facilitated by Joan
Gallagher, RN, EdD, of MGH Clinical Nursing Services, Oct. 11, from 1 to 2 pm.
"Managing Lymphadema," facilitated by Eileen Valis-Kerr, PT, of MGH Physical
Therapy, will be offered Oct. 16, noon to 1 pm. All seminars are held in the Cancer

MGH Tennis Club
The MGH Tennis Club has been revived. Construction is complete for the tennis courts over
the Lomasney Parking Garage in the Charles River Park area. Employees who are interested
in playing tennis Friday evenings, 5 to 6:30 pm, beginning in mid-October, should contact
David Harmon at 724-1112 or Peter Dowling at 724-8647. The cost is $10 per hour.
Scientific writing seminar
The Clinical Research Program
and the Department
of Psychiatry will offer "Scientific Writing," Oct. 25, 31 and Nov. 8, from
4 to 5 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. This series will include information about
clarifying the writer's interests, creating an outline, writing multiple drafts and
understanding the peer-review process. Speakers will include Theodore Stern, MD, and Ellie
