Spanish for health care classes
MGH Human Resources and Partners Training will sponsor Spanish for health care classes
beginning Oct. 9. Three levels of classes including an
introductory class for those with no prior experience in Spanish
will be offered. The fee is $40 for a 10-week course. To register, call Partners Training

Poetry therapy workshop
The MGH HOPES (Helping Our Patients and Families Through Education and Support) Program
now will offer both poetry and art therapy workshops. Art therapist Elizabeth Cook will
facilitate "Poetry to Heal By" on the second Tuesday of each month, beginning
Oct. 9, from 11 am to noon in the Cancer Resource Room on Cox 1. All are welcome. For more

Domestic Violence Awareness Month
The MGH Domestic Violence Working Group will offer several programs and presentations
throughout October, in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Judy Hunt and
Carmen Norona, of the Child Witness to Violence Project at Boston Medical Center, will
present "Shelter From the Storm: Clinical Interventions with Children Affected by
Domestic Violence," Oct. 11, from noon to 1 pm in the Wellman Conference Room.
Activist and violence survivor Yoko Kato will discuss "Transforming Grief Into
Action," Oct. 18, from noon to 1 pm in the Wellman Conference Room. Lunch will be
served at both events.
National Depression Screening
Day
The MGH Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will offer free, anonymous and confidential
depression screening tests to all employees Oct. 11, in observance of National Depression
Screening Day. The screenings will be held from 9 am to 4 pm in VBK 427. The EAP also will
coordinate with the MGH Depression Clinical and Research Program to provide information in

Seminar Series
Pat Moran, RN, Colleen McFarland, MSCI, and Julie Kaberry, MHP, of the Partners Quality
Improvement (QI) and Human Studies Protection Program, will present "QI and Human
Subjects Protection Program Top 10 List: Findings and Corrective Actions," Oct. 17,

Working and breastfeeding
seminar
The MGH Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will sponsor "Working and
Breastfeeding," a seminar for expectant and nursing parents, Oct. 10, from 1 to 2 pm
in VBK 401. Germaine Lambergs, RN, IBCLC, will address topics including the use of breast
pumps and how to maintain the milk supply while working. For more information, call the

Introduction to Proteomics
The Partners Research and Ventures Office, the MGH Department of Medicine and the MGH
Clinical Research Program will sponsor a new course, "Introduction to
Proteomics," Oct. 9, 16 and 23, from 4 to 5 pm in the Haber Conference Room. The
course is designed to educate clinical and basic investigators from all departments about
the field of proteomics, and to demonstrate opportunities for integrating proteomics
approaches into clinical and research activities. The course will be taught by Ashtok
Khatri, instructor of Medicine at HMS, and Lakshmanan Iyer, PhD, bioinformaticist at HMS.
