Ether
Day celebration
Ether Day will be celebrated this year at the MGH Oct.11 at 2 pm under
the Bulfinch Tent. During this special celebration, employees will be
recognized for their length of service. Ether Day pins will be distributed
to department heads Oct. 2 to 6. Ether Day flowers will be distributed
to departments Oct. 11. An invitation-only dinner for MGHers who have
served at the hospital for 20 years or more will be held Oct. 17 at the

Domestic
Violence Awareness Month seminar
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the MGH Domestic
Violence Working Group will present a seminar focusing on the response
of the African American community to domestic violence Oct. 10, from noon
to 1 pm in the Wellman Conference Room. All employees are invited to attend.

Depression
screening day
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will host National Depression Screening
Day Oct. 10, from 9 am to 4 pm, in VBK 427 for MGH employees and their
family members. The screening is free, anonymous and confidential and
takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Mental health professionals
will be available to review and discuss the test. The EAP also will present
a seminar, "Depression and What You Should Know" with guest
speaker John Herman, MD, of MGH Psychiatry, Oct. 11, from 12:30 to 1:30
pm in the Wellman Conference Room. The seminar will provide information
about the symptoms and treatment of depression. For more information,

Pastoral Care Week
The MGH
Chaplaincy Department will celebrate Pastoral Care Week Oct. 10, from
10:30 am to 1:30 pm in the Main Corridor. Staff, patients and families
are welcome to attend a service at noon in the MGH Chapel, which will
feature music by Inca Son Music of Peru. Information about Chaplaincy
services and religious and spiritual resources will be available in the
Main Corridor, from 10:30 am to noon.
Materials
Management Week
The Materials Management Department will recognize National Materials
Management Week Oct. 6 to 12. Photos of Materials Management employees
will be displayed on the employee recognition and announcement board located
outside the Materials Management office in the Gray/Bigelow Basement,

New
parking procedures
The MGH Parking Department will be converting to a central pay process
in the Fruit Street garage Oct. 7 and in the Parkman Street garage Oct.
8. The validation desk in the Main Lobby will close Oct. 7. There will
be signage at the desk instructing patients and visitors to go to the
cashier window of the garage where the vehicle is parked for validation
and instructions. There are no changes in the parking rates or to the

Management Week
The Case Management Department will celebrate Case Management Week Oct.
6 to 12. A display table will be available in the Main Corridor Oct. 8
and 10 from 8:30 am to 5 pm. An MGH version of the TV show "Saturday
Night Live," will be presented Oct. 9, from 2 to 3:30 pm in the O'Keeffe
Auditorium. Nursing grand rounds will be held Oct. 10, from 1:30 to 2:30
pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Louis Feuer, a nationally recognized lecturer,
author and health care management consultant, will present a lecture,
"Dealing with the Changing Health Care Times: It's Time to Break
the Rules," Oct. 15, from 10 to 11 am in the O'Keeffe Auditorium.

Kenneth
B. Schwartz Center annual dinner
The Kenneth B. Schwartz Center
will celebrate its seventh anniversary at its annual dinner Oct. 30 at
the Westin Hotel, Copley Place. A reception will be held at 5:30 pm. The
dinner will be at 7 pm and will feature a performance by Beth Nielsen
Chapman and a presentation of the fourth annual Compassionate Caregiver
