A fun fiesta: MGH celebrates Latino Heritage Month

The MGH Multicultural Affairs Office honored Latino Heritage Month at a special celebration Sept. 25, featuring speakers from the Latino community and a vibrant mixture of food, fun and music under the Bulfinch Tent.

The day began with a presentation in the O'Keeffe Auditorium that focused on important health care issues facing the Latino community. Nicolás Carballeria, executive director for Health Policy and Planning at the Latin American Health Institute, and Joseph Betancourt, MD, program director for Multicultural Education in the MGH Multicultural Affairs Office, discussed "Improving Latin American Health: Should Health Care Organizations be Providers, Partners or Community Members?"

The presentation was followed by a reception under the Bulfinch Tent, where MGHers were invited to listen and dance to the festive sounds of El Mariachi Mexamerica and Los Nitidos. They also sampled a variety of authentic food from Latin America.
The celebration was co-sponsored by MGH Human Resources and the MGH Employee Latino Heritage Planning Committee.
