National Depression Screening Day
National Depression Screening Day, a program designed to provide information about depression is Oct. 7. Free, anonymous and confidential screening tests will be offered in VBK 427, 8 am to 4:30 pm (employees and family members only) and at 50 Staniford St., suite 400, 9 am to 7 pm (open to the public). Mental health professionals will be available to review and discuss tests. Free literature about depression also will be available.

Health care regulatory issues
The Department of Radiation Oncology and the MGH Cancer Center are sponsoring a lecture series about nonclinical issues in health care. The Oct. 13 lecture will cover health care regulatory issues, in Lawrence House, 5 to 6 pm. The lecture can be viewed by satellite at Emerson Hospital. The guest speaker will be Sally Trombly, JD, of the Risk Management Foundation. For more information, call 6-8150.

December vacation camp
The MGH Backup Childcare Center is offering a vacation program, Dec. 27 to 30, 7:30 am to 6 pm. The camp costs $150 per child and is offered to employees' children (ages kindergarten completed to 12 years.) Reservations must be made for the entire week, and space is limited to 25 children. Registrations will be accepted Oct. 8, beginning at 8 am. For more information, call 4-7100.

Mood recognition seminar
The Mood and Anxiety Disorders Institute at the MGH is sponsoring "Know Mood Cycles," Oct. 10, 1 to 5 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. The program will include recognizing symptoms of depression and ways to seek treatment. Registration is required for this free seminar. For more information or to register, call 6-4820.

Friends of the MGH Cancer Center DIALOGUES
The Friends of the MGH Cancer Center will present a DIALOGUE about "The Function Restoration of Cancer Patients: The Role of the MGH Institute of Health Professions," Oct. 5, 6 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 6-1063.

Scientific Writing series
The Clinical Research Program (CRP) and the Department of Psychiatry will offer Scientific Writing, Oct. 6, 13 and 20 in the O'Keeffe Auditorium, 4 to 5 pm. This series will focus on creating an outline, writing multiple drafts, the peer-review process and more. Impact of domestic violence in the workplace
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. On Oct. 14, Andrea Stidsen, director, EAP; Bonnie Michelman, director, MGH Police and Security; and a domestic violence survivor will speak about domestic violence's impact on the workplace in the Wellman Conference Room, noon to 1 pm. PeopleSoft online requisition class

Eating disorders forum
The Harvard Eating Disorders Center is sponsoring "Media, Magazines and Me," Oct. 25, 7:15 pm at the Windsor School, Longwood Medical Area. Registration is not necessary, and there will be free parking. For more information, call 6-7766.

Flu shots
MGHers can get flu shots, Oct. 13 and 14, 6 am to 6 pm, and Oct. 15 through 22, 7 am to 5 pm, in the Main Corridor. MGH East employees can get shots Oct. 15, 8 am to 4 pm, Conference room B, first floor, CNY west lobby. All employees must bring ID badges.

Up with People
Up With People, an internationally renowned leadership and performing arts program, is returning to perform for the Boston Public Schools, Oct. 17 through 25, including a performance at the James P. Timilty School Oct. 21. As part of the MGH/ Timilty Partnership, MGHers are invited to volunteer either as host families for cast members or for classroom activities. Host families will provide lodging, a few meals and possible rides to MBTA stations. Volunteers in classrooms will take part in activities or help supervise.
