EAP programs
The Employee Assistance Program
(EAP) will offer a 10-week education and support group for female employees
who have been affected by domestic violence in past or current relationships.
The group will meet Thursdays starting Oct. 14, from 4:30 to 6 pm. The
location will be given to employees at the time of registration.
The EAP also will hold a Work/Life seminar "Nourishing Your Newborn"
Oct. 12, from noon to 1 pm in VBK, room 401. Germaine Lambergs, RN, an
MGH lactation consultant, will discuss the latest on breastfeeding, and
a tour of the Mother's Corner will be given. For more information on either

Domestic violence awareness
The Domestic Violence Working Group at the MGH will sponsor "Piecing
Together the Puzzle of Domestic Violence: Are you the Missing Piece?"
Oct. 7, from 11 am to 3 pm under the Bulfinch Tent. The event will feature
remarks from Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH, and more than
15 information tables. Topics will include health effects of domestic
violence, security and safety, children witnessing domestic violence and

Pastoral Care Week
In celebration of Pastoral Care Week, MGH Chaplaincy will have information
tables featuring a Filipino artwork display Oct. 13, from 10:30 am to
2 pm in the Main Corridor. Musical storytellers, Charlie King and Karen
Brandow, will perform from noon to 1 pm. The Chaplaincy also will offer
a "Blessing of the Hands" ceremony Oct. 14, from 6:30 to 8 am,
11:30 am to 12:15 pm and 3 to 5 pm, in the MGH Chapel. All patients, families,
staff, visitors and volunteers are welcome to join this ceremony. For

Macaluso Award nominations
The nomination deadline for the Stephanie M. Macaluso, RN, Excellence
in Clinical Practice Award is Oct. 4. The award recognizes direct care
providers throughout MGH Patient Care Services whose practice exemplifies
the expert application of values personified by the late Stephanie M.
Macaluso, RN. Nomination forms are available in all patient care areas,
in department offices and at the Gray Lobby information desk. Recipients

Warren Triennial Prize lectures
The Warren Triennial Prize lectures will take place Oct. 14 at 3 pm in
the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Given every three years to leading biological
scientists, the prize is the highest research honor bestowed by the MGH.
Andrew Fire, PhD, of Stanford University School of Medicine, and Craig
Mello, PhD, of the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the
Howard Hughes Medical Institute, will be honored for their work with RNA
interference, a new technique for controlling
genetic expression.
MGH Photo Contest
The deadline to submit photographs for the seventh annual MGH Photo Contest
is Oct. 6. All submissions will be displayed, and winners will be announced
Oct. 14 at the Police and Security, Outside Services, Photography and
Parking Fair.
