The Clean Sweepstakes a friendly competition among patient
care units to achieve the highest hand hygiene compliance has
just completed its third quarter, and the STOP Stop the Transmission
of Pathogens Task Force has announced that an extra recognition
will be added to the regular Clean Sweepstakes
reward for the final quarter of 2004.

Stroke Service to be surveyed
As a recognized leader in stroke care, the MGH Stroke Service will
participate in a statewide
effort by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) to designate
centers for the care of acute stroke patients. Because acute stroke
care varies widely from hospital to hospital, the DPH drafted new
regulations for these specialized centers of care.

wage and salary program announced
The MGH this week announced the fiscal year 2005 wage and salary
program effective Sept. 26 that includes a performance-based increase
ranging up to 4 percent. This year's General Hospital program
is funded at 3 percent.

Public Leaders Day
More than 20 Massachusetts state legislators and senior officials
had the opportunity to participate in the hospital's first-ever Public
Leaders Day educational forum, "Exploring the Brain," held
Sept. 23.
