MGH success results in bonus for employees

Good news for MGH employees was announced this week. Because the hospital demonstrated a successful financial performance in fiscal year 2002, all active employees will receive a bonus equal to 1 percent of their FY '02 regular earnings. This bonus will be paid Nov. 21 for weekly paid employees. This announcement was made in conjunction with the wage and salary program that includes a performance-based increase, ranging from 0 to 5 percent.

In a letter distributed to employees Sept. 27, James J. Mongan, MD, president of the MGH, credited the hard work and dedication of employees for the strong financial success. "The bonus is a way to share these good results with each of you who worked so hard this year and to thank you for your effort," he said. "I continue to be impressed by the extraordinary effort displayed by all of you to deliver the best care and services."

This year's General Hospital wage and salary program is funded at 3 percent. Those who are above the maximum of their pay range are eligible for a bonus of 0 to 4 percent on their raise-effective date. A completed performance appraisal is required before any increase or bonus is processed. The Massachusetts General Physicians Organization is following a similar approach.

Employees and staff who have questions about the wage and salary program or the bonus are encouraged to speak to their supervisors.
