Kidney Care Day
The MGH Renal Unit will host Kidney Care Day Sept. 30, featuring grand rounds at 8 am in the O'Keeffe Auditorium and an information table in the Main Corridor, from 9 am to 1 pm. MGH representatives from the Center for Renal Education, Renal Associates, Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, Pediatric Nephrology, Nutrition Services and Social Services will be available. In the afternoon, speaker Loretta LaRoche will present "The Humorous Side of Coping with Chronic Illness" from 2 to 3:15 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. LaRoche will discuss how to use creative humor to deal with some of the unusual and uncomfortable situations that arise from chronic illness.

Vincent symposium
The MGH Vincent Obstetrics and Gynecology Service will hold its annual symposium, "Mirror Mirror on the Wall: How the Media and Hormones Shape Us All" Oct. 1, from 11 am to 2 pm at the Fairmount Copley Plaza Hotel. Speakers will include Judy Norsigian, co-author of "Our Bodies, Ourselves," Jan Shifren, MD, director of the MGH Vincent Menopause Program, and Anne Becker, MD, PhD, director of the MGH Adult Eating and Weight Disorders Program. CRP scientific writing series
The Clinical Research Program (CRP) and the Department of Psychiatry will offer "Scientific Writing" Oct. 5, 12 and 19, from 4 to 5 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. This three-part education series will focus on clarifying the writer's interest, creating an outline, writing multiple drafts and more. Registration is recommended. Latino Heritage Month
The MGH Latino Heritage Planning Committee is celebrating Latino Heritage Month Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 with a series of events. A Latin American film series will be held Sept. 28 and 30, from 4:15 to 5 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Medical Interpreters Week will be recognized Oct. 4 to 8, from 10 am to 2 pm, in the Main Corridor. Keynote speaker Andres Torres, PhD, director of the Mauricio Gaston Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Policy, will present "A Latino Profile" Oct. 4, from noon to 1 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Latino heritage festivities will take place Oct. 4, from 1 to 2:30 pm under the Bulfinch Tent.

Women's Cancers Awareness Fair
The MGH Cancer Center will host the Women's Cancers Awareness Fair Oct. 1, from 10 am to 2 pm under the Bulfinch Tent. Information about early detection, prevention and treatment of the most common cancers affecting women will be available. For more information, contact Tara Becker at (617) 724-9432.

Reading Disabilities Unit offers tutoring
The MGH Reading Disabilities Unit is offering one-on-one tutoring for school-aged children. The program will give children with reading, writing and spelling difficulties the opportunity to improve their skills using a structured, multisensory and phonetic approach to written language. Children will meet with a tutor two or three times
a week. The program starts in mid-October and runs until May 2005. Each 50-minute session is $30. For more information, call (617) 726-2764.

POE rollout
Provider Order Entry (POE) will be implemented in the Obstetrics, Newborn Nursery and Special Care Nursery Services beginning Sept. 28. In-house support staff will be available to assist new users during the implementation. Support also is available by calling the Help Desk at (617) 726-5085.
