Partners in Excellence awards

Clinical research studies seminar
The Clinical Research Program will sponsor "Conducting Clinical Research Studies," a seminar for clinical research coordinators with less than six months experience, Oct. 11, 8:30 am to 5 pm in the Wellman 101 Conference Room. The speaker will be Lorraine Ellis, MS, MBA, president of Research Dynamics, Inc. This program includes instruction in the site's role in the drug development process, the roles and responsibilities of research staff, good clinical practice and study conduct and audits. Crohn's disease and colitis support group
The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) will hold family and patient support meetings on the second Thursday of each month in the Thorn room at BWH. The next meeting will be Oct. 12. For more information, call Joanna Hedstrom at 355-2712 or send e-mail to hedstrom@hub.tch.harvard.edu.

HOPES seminars
The HOPES (Helping Our Patients/Families through Education and Support) program will offer "Parenting in Challenging Times: A Drop-in Support Group for Parents," facilitated by Paula Rauch, MD, of MGH Psychiatry, Sept. 26, 11 am to noon. "Fear of Death: Spiritual Resources," facilitated by Michael McElhinny, MDiv, of the MGH Chaplaincy, also will be offered Sept. 26, noon to1 pm. On Sept. 27, "Feeling Stressed? Some Simple Steps to Relax," facilitated by Vicki Cotton, MSW, of MGH Social Services, will be offered from noon to 1 pm. "Clinical Trials in Ovarian Cancer," facilitated by Karen Borden, RN, NP, and Maria Roche, RN, NP, of the Gillette Center for Women's Cancers, will be offered Sept. 29, noon to 1 pm. Longwood Symphony Orchestra
The Longwood Symphony Orchestra (LSO) returns to Jordan Hall Oct. 21 at 8 pm with a concert to benefit The Children of Chernobyl Relief Fund. The LSO is an ensemble comprised of Boston-area physicians, hospital staff and medical students who perform benefit concerts. Distinguished Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) flutist Jacques Zoon, as well as Boston Conservatory conductor and BSO cellist Ronald Feldman, will join the LSO for this concert. Tickets are $20. Professional development series
Partners Corporate Training and Human Resources will offer the Professional Development Series for managers and supervisors, with selected courses open to all staff. Fall courses include: "MGH New Manager Orientation," Oct. 18; "Coaching Your Employees to Grow," Oct. 24; "Franklin-Covey: What Matters Most," Nov. 30 and Dec. 8; "Peoplesoft Training," Nov. 3; and "Performance Management," Oct. 12 and Nov. 1.
