Gagliano appointed to leadership position

090701gagliano.jpg (8507 bytes)Nancy Gagliano, MD, (left) was appointed last week to the new role of vice president for MGH Physician Practice Management. Gagliano's position succeeds that of Joan Sapir, who left the position of vice president for Customer Service and Practice Support. Sapir now has taken the role of vice president for Neurosciences and Pediatrics.

According to Peter Slavin, MD, chairman and CEO of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization (MGPO), once Sapir left her previous role, senior management reviewed the components of the position and concluded that more physician leadership was needed in initiatives to improve the overall performance of physician practices.

"We want to acknowledge the progress and success Joan brought to her role," says Slavin. "We now are in a strong position for even more progress in customer service and practice support. Nancy has been very effective in understanding and meeting the needs of patients, physicians and support staff. By appointing Nancy to this position, the MGPO and the MGH demonstrate our commitment to including physicians in important management roles."

Gagliano's previous positions included associate medical director of Primary Care for the MGPO and clinical director of MGH Women's Health Associates. A Harvard Medical School graduate, Gagliano completed her medical residency training at BWH and a clinical fellowship at Children's Hospital. She joined the MGH staff in 1989.

Gagliano primarily will report to Dan Ginsburg, president and chief operating officer of the MGPO, and will have a secondary reporting relationship to James J. Mongan, MD, president of the MGH.
