In memoriam
William C. Quinby, Jr., MD, a general, pediatric and burn surgeon at the
MGH for half a century, died Aug. 15. He was 88. He served on the MGH
surgical staff from 1946 to 1966 and was a founding surgeon of the MGH
Burn Unit until his retirement. He was a leader in the development of
the surgical treatment of severe burns. Quinby also served as assistant
chief of staff at Shriners Burns Hospital from 1969 to 1985. For more
than 35 years, he served as associate clinical professor of Surgery at
Harvard Medical School. A memorial service will be held at Milton Academy's
Apthorp Chapel Sept. 7.
