What's Happening
HOPES seminars
The MGH HOPES
(Helping our Patients and Families through Education and Support) program
will offer several classes and seminars this month. Michael McElhinny,
an oncology chaplain, will offer "Fear of Death: Spiritual Resources,"
Aug. 26, from noon to 1 pm. Paula Rauch, MD, a child psychiatrist, will
hold a class on the impact of parenting with cancer Aug. 27, from 11 am
to noon. Kate Binda, LICSW, an oncology social worker, will offer a seminar
on some simple steps to reduce stress Aug. 21, from noon to 1 pm. "Chemotherapy
101: What you should know," will be held Aug. 23 and 29, from noon
to 1 pm. All events will be held in the Cancer Resource Room on Cox 1.
Seminars and drop-in support groups are free. No prior registration is
required. Creative Expressions/Poetry Workshops and drop-in yoga classes
will resume in September. For more information, call the Cancer Resource

Clinical Pastoral Education Program fellowship
Through funding from the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center and the MGH Department
of Nursing, fellowships now are available for the winter 2002 MGH Clinical
Pastoral Education Program. The program is open to individuals from any
discipline who work directly with patients and/or families in a health
care setting and who wish to integrate
spiritual caregiving skills into their professional practice. Four Kenneth
B. Schwartz Fellowships will be awarded to caregivers who have a minimum
of two years of nursing experience. The program is part time and will
run from Jan. 7 through May 17, 2003. Sessions will be held every Monday
excluding Jan. 21
and April 1 from 9
am to 5 pm. Additional hours will be negotiated for the clinical component.
