Timilty students show their summer stuff

Students from the James P. Timilty Middle School had the opportunity to strut their stuff Aug. 8 when they took part in the MGH/Timilty Partnership SummerWorks
Showcase. The showcase highlighted the skills and lessons Timilty students (shown right) learned during a seven-week summer internship program at the hospital.
SummerWorks is a career exploration and summer employment program that offers graduating Timilty students paid part-time summer internships at the MGH. This summer the MGH hired seven students who worked in departments ranging from the Photo Lab to Human Resources to Police and Security. The importance of the program was not taken lightly by supervisors or students. Work responsibilities resembled those required of other MGH employees. After a rigorous application and selection process, the chosen students worked Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. They also had to follow a strict dress code and maintain a high level of professionalism at all times."This showcase is a culmination of everything the students learned during their seven weeks at the hospital," says Wanda Velasquez, manager of the SummerWorks program. "But it also is an opportunity to showcase the departments that made the effort to help these kids."
