Seminars help seniors
stay healthy A group of 30 senior citizens from area senior apartment buildings recently attended a seminar at the MGH to learn about safety precautions to prevent falls and improve their balance. Sponsored by the MGH Senior Supper Club, the seminar featured several physical therapists from MGH Physical Therapy Services, who spent time with each senior to test their balance and teach them basic stretching exercises and techniques to help prevent falls. The seminar is the first of many to be presented by the MGH Senior Supper Club, a program that began April 3 and is sponsored by MGH Senior Health and MGH Nutrition and Food Services. The program offers adults over 60 a discount on meals at the Eat Street Café, as well as social programs and access to MGH resources such as the MGH General Store, Images beauty salon and the MGH Chapel. The next seminar for seniors, "The Savvy Shopper: Making Wise and Economic Choices in the Supermarket," will be held Aug. 22, 5 to 5:30 pm in the East Garden Dining Room, adjacent to the Eat Street Café. The seminar will feature guest speaker Alayne Seale of MGH Nutrition and Food Services. For more information about the program, call 726-4600 ext. 7802. |
