Club music of a different kind: Summertime fun at The Clubs

While many music fans spend long hours lined up at local nightclubs to hear live music, members and guests of The Clubs at Charles River Park get the same good music, but with no lines and the added benefit of sitting poolside, sipping cool beverages. As part of their summer offerings for members, The Clubs -- a health and fitness facility acquired by the MGH last May -- recently inaugurated a concert series to showcase some of the musical talent of club members.

The first performance July 11 featured the rock renderings of guitarist and singer Larry Wolfe, right, who played a variety of songs from his first CD, "Passion's Wasteland," as well as cover tunes from famous artists, such as Bob Dylan and John Mayer. The concerts are held every other Thursday throughout the summer.

In addition to the concert series, The Clubs offer a variety of summertime activities for members and community residents with an expansive outdoor pool, at left, poolside cafe and an inviting community atmosphere. Adults and children can take swim lessons, and an Olympic-trained swim coach is available to advise about swim workouts. Other outdoor activities include free chair massages, Pilates fitness classes and an arts and crafts program for children.

An outdoor tent also can be reserved for private parties and special occasions. In addition, The Clubs facility offers access to an indoor pool, cardiovascular and strength training equipment, group fitness classes, personal training, a steam room, towel service, sauna and Jacuzzi.
