In GeneralWilliam Baker, vice president of the MGH Vincent
Memorial Hospital and a captain in the Naval Reserve, recently served aboard the USS Mount
Whitney. Baker was responsible for medical planning during fleet exercises involving 30
ships and more than 15,000 sailors, soldiers, marines and airmen.
James Herndon, MD, Partners chairman of Orthopædics, was recently named first-president-elect of the American Orthopedics Association. He will serve as president for the year 2000. Brett Bouma, PhD, of MGH Dermatology, recently was awarded a grant in biomedical engineering from the Whitaker Foundation. His research focuses on subcellular resolution endoscopic microscopy. The American Heart Association awarded a fellowship to Soley Argani, MD, of the MGH Department of Medicine. The fellowship began in July 1998 and will run until June 30, 2000. Spyros Artavanis-Tsakonas, PhD, director of the Program in Developmental Biology and Cancer at the MGH, was recently named the first incumbent of the Kurt J. Isselbacher-Peter D. Schwartz Professorship in Oncology at Harvard Medical School. |
