Partnership awarded grant The James
P. Timilty School in Roxbury and the MGH have worked in partnership
for 10 years to provide students with opportunities to learn about science
and hospital staff with a chance to grow as mentors and role models.
This relationship between the school and the hospital will continue
thanks to a $300,000 grant from the Howard Hughes
Medical Institute (HHMI).
MGH
employee blood drive campaign in full swing MGHers are encouraged to keep their eyes
open for the MGH Blood Donor Center's new posters, which will be displayed throughout the
hospital as part of a long-term effort to increase the rate of employee blood donation.
Along with the new educational posters, the campaign also includes a series of newsletter
articles and e-mail messages, as well as raffle prizes and incentive gifts for
employee donors.
MGH loses
a close friend Barbara "Bunny"
Nessel of Palm Beach, Fla., a longtime friend and supporter of the MGH, died July 27 at
her home in Boston after a nine-year battle with breast and liver cancer.
Lending
a helping hand (or arm) for blood and platelet donation Platelet donation is accomplished through a
process called pheresis and is used in treating certain cancer and transplant
patients, as well as people with blood disorders
and a variety of surgical procedures.
MGH
Police and Security Department honored The MGH Police and Security Department recently
was honored with the International Association for Healthcare Security
and Safety (IAHSS) "Lindbergh Bell" award.
New search
function for Public Affairs homepage The "News and Publications" section of the
MGH web site now offers a search function. MGHers, patients and other web surfers can
conduct a keyword search for press releases going back to 1997 and Hotline Online back to Dec. 4, 1998.
A mother's
memory helps raise funds for melanoma
