The Breakers are part of the Women's United Soccer Association, a professional league that made its debut in April. Defense players Kim Calkins and Kate Sobrero along with team mascot "Sweeper" the harbor seal visited patient rooms, posed for photos, signed autographs and handed out team magnets and stickers. The visit was organized by MGH child life specialist Tracie Grant. Patient Mike Herrick enjoyed meeting the players and swapping soccer stories. "I've played soccer since I was four years old, so it really was great to have professionals visiting," he said. Sobrero noted that the team felt the same way: "The kids are adorable, and it meant a lot to us to spend some time with them." |
