Sandy Feng, MD, PhD, assistant professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School, received the American College of Surgeons Faculty Research Fellowship, awarded by the Board of Regents. Feng was one of eight to receive this prestigious fellowship.

Anne Louise Oaklander, MD, of MGH Anesthesia, was one of three HMS-affiliated doctors who received a Beeson Scholarship from the American Federation for Aging. Oaklander received the $500,000 award for her research on the causes of chronic pain in the elderly. This was the first time the award was given to a pain researcher.

Jeannie Lee, MD, PhD, of Molecular Biology at the MGH, was one of 20 of America's most promising biomedical researchers to be named a 1999 Pew Scholar in Biomedical Science. Lee was recognized for her work in transcription/gene expression. Stephen Blacklow, MD, PhD, of BWH, also was named.
