Savory samplings for Senior Supper Club

Julia Child couldn't have done it better. Helen Doherty, RD, director of MGH Nutrition and Food Services, and Susan Barraclough, MS, RD, senior manager of Retail Operations and Production for the department, hosted a lively cooking demonstration at the MGH June 24 as a part of the MGH Senior Supper Club. The demonstration was the first in a series of special events inaugurating the summer program of the club, which caters to seniors over 60 living in communities close to the hospital's main campus.

More than 50 seniors from local neighborhoods came to the hospital's East Garden Dining Room to sample some of the easy-to-prepare, nutritious cuisine prepared by Doherty and Barraclough. Some of the tasty treats included a mouth-watering Moroccan chicken stew, a tantalizing tomato soup and a pleasing pasta primavera.

The MGH Senior Supper Club, which is co-sponsored by MGH Senior HealthWISE and MGH Nutrition and Food Services, offers seniors a variety of discounts and benefits. Some of the services include a 10 percent discount for breakfast and dinner at the hospital's Eat Street Cafe; a 10 percent discount at the MGH General Store, Flower Shop and Images Hair Salon; and educational programs and health screenings.
