Young honored for supporting women faculty

Anne Young, MD, PhD, chief of the MGH Department of Neurology, received the Harvard Medical School (HMS) Dean's Award for the Support and Advancement of Women Faculty. Young was recognized as a scientific and clinical leader who has made the MGH Neurology Department a more supportive place for women by recruiting women as residents and chief residents and by mentoring and promoting women faculty. "She personally exemplifies how women in medicine can combine family responsibilities with an outstanding academic career," says one of Young's nominators.

HMS Dean Joseph Martin, MD, sponsors this annual award, organized by the HMS/Harvard School for Dental Medicine Joint Committee on the Status of Women, to recognize the contributions of an individual who has significantly enhanced or supported recruitment, retention or promotion of women faculty at HMS and its affiliated institutions. Young was honored with a certificate and cash award at the May Faculty of Medicine meeting.
