Executive Committee on Research survey
The MGH Executive Committee on Research (ECOR) is currently undertaking an
Operations Improvement initiative focused on research management functions in the hospital. Members of the research community should have received a survey relating to technology transfer July 12. The purpose of the survey is to obtain information from the research community about its experience with technology transfer and, in particular, with MGH’s technology transfer office – the Corporate Sponsored Research Licensing (CSRL), formerly the Office of Technology Affairs. For more information, call Catherine Shih at 4-2918. Surveys should be returned to CNY 149, Corporate Sponsored Research and Licensing, Suite 1101, as soon as possible.

Cancer Center program
The Cancer Center Patient and Family Support Program (PFSP) will be offering a seminar "Cancer and Fatigue: Discussion and Support" July 20, noon to 1 pm. Susan Eastham, MSW, LISCW, and Carole Seigel will be facilitating the program in the Cancer Resource Room on Cox 1. For more information, call 4-1822.

Oral-B joins the fight against breast cancer
The toothbrush manufacturer, Oral-B, a division of The Gillette Company, will be marketing a Pink Ribbon Limited Edition Advantage toothbrush to benefit breast cancer research at Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare. The Pink Ribbon toothbrush will be available nationwide in supermarkets, drugstores, discount department stores and wholesale clubs, beginning mid-July. For more information, call (617) 632-5856.

Clinical Research Program luncheon seminar series
The Clinical Research Program (CRP) is hosting a Q&A session for clinical research coordinators and research nurses in the Wellman 101 Conference Room July 22, 11:45 am to 1 pm. Representatives from the MGH Human Research Committee, Grants and Contracts, the General Clinical Research Center and CRP will answer questions about MGH procedures for start-up of human research studies. Treadwell Library class
The Treadwell Library will offer a class that provides a user-friendly way to search the Medline database using Ovid, July 27 at 11 am in the Treadwell Library conference room. To sign up for the session or to request an individual or group session, call 6-8600.

Cutaneous Biology Research Center to host workshop
The MGH/HMS Cutaneous Biology Research Center (CBRC) will host a workshop "The Skin and Its Cells" Oct. 4 through 8. This workshop is designed for researchers with a background in molecular biology and genetics, interested in applying their knowledge to complex biological systems such as skin and its appendages, including the mammary gland. This week-long intensive course will involve theoretical lectures as well as practical hands-on sessions about culture and manipulation of skin cells of various types. The course is limited to 10 to 12 students. Application deadline is Aug. 1. Tuition is $550 and includes meals. New location and name for Department of Dietetics
The Department of Dietetics has changed its name to the Department of Nutrition and Food Services. It also has moved from Founders House 1 to the Blake basement. All phone extensions will remain the same. For more information call Helen Doherty, RD, FMP, at 6-2522.

Schwartz Center Rounds
All MGH care providers are invited to attend the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center Rounds, July 23, noon to 1 pm. This month’s topic "Autonomy vs. Medical Futility at the End of Life" will be held in the Walcott Conference rooms. Lunch will be provided at 11:45 am. For more information, call 4-6862.

Management strategies for entry level coordinators
The Clinical Research Program (CRP) is sponsoring a half-day workshop Aug. 5, 1 to 5 pm in the Wellman 101 Conference Room. Topics covered include optimizing time for efficient workload management, using time management strategies and prioritization techniques, and negotiating the MGH clinical research system effectively.
