• Dodging detours: Alternate routes to the MGH during the DNC
  With the road closures and traffic detours that are expected during the Democratic National Convention (DNC) – July 26 to 29 – many patients, visitors and employees are seeking alternate routes to get to and from the hospital during the convention. MGH Police, Security and Outside Services is offering alternate route directions to get to the hospital. While these alternate routes will avoid the road closures, delays may be unavoidable. These routes also could be subject to change.
  

• Partners shuttle service during the DNC
  A lthough significant travel restrictions are planned during the week of the Democratic
  National Convention (DNC) – July 26 to 29 – Partners Transportation has developed a plan for the Partners shuttles to transport riders in a safe and efficient manner. A detailed listing of shuttle services will be posted on the hospital's DNC web site at www2.massgeneral.org/dnc.
  

• Growth hormone control may affect HIV lipodystrophy treatment
  Increasing the body's production of growth hormone may be an effective treatment for HIV lipodystrophy, a syndrome involving the redistribution of fat and other metabolic changes in those receiving combination drug therapy for AIDS. MGH researchers reported in the July 14 Journal of the American Medical Association that administration of growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) significantly improved fat distribution with no negative side effects in men with HIV lipodystrophy.
  

• Helpful hints from the hospital during the DNC
  As the Democratic National Convention (DNC) gets closer – July 26 to 29 – the MGH is offering helpful advice and reminders to patients, visitors and employees to make the week of the convention go as smoothly as possible. Employees and staff are encouraged to provide the following resources to patients and visitors so they can make appropriate plans during the convention.
  

• Authors' night provides guide to challenging children
  The MGH Back Bay HealthCare Center held "Authors' Night" June 28 as part of the Healthy Kids Talk series. Perri Klass, MD, and Eileen Costello, MD, authors of Quirky Kids: Understanding and Helping Your Child Who Doesn't Fit In, addressed a group of parents, educators and pediatricians about children who are different from other kids in ways that are hard to understand or explain.
